The World of Freemasons
Considered to be the world’s largest closed-door fraternity of stonemasons, Freemasonry set foot in Mumbai in 1758.
Many heritage structures in south Mumbai have connections with Freemasonry. The initiation for the first lodge to admit Indians into Freemasonry took place at the Town Hall, now called the Asiatic Society.
Frederick William Steven, the architect of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) building, was initiated into Freemasonry in 1875. Steven was also the architect of the headquarters, Maharashtra Police headquarters in Colaba, Post-Office Mews at Apollo Bunder, head offices of the BB&CI Railway at Churchgate railway station, the Oriental Life Assurance Offices at Flora Fountain, and Mulji Jetha fountain.
The Lodge celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2019

The antient tradition of our fraternity was to wait for interested men to inquire about membership.
-
In recent times, we allow our members to selectively invite and propose men of good character, who will live up to our fraternal values.
-
This does not mean that you have to wait to be invited to join our fraternity.
